About Sutter

Sutter is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sutter County, 49 miles north of Sacramento. The community is just over three square miles in size and has a population of 2,904 people. 

The community is known for the Sutter Buttes, which are domes of eroded volcanic lava that have formed into what is referred to as the world’s smallest mountain range. The buttes sit above the Sacramento Valley’s flat plains in Sutter County. The community of Sutter sits at the base of the mountain. 

The community receives about 21 inches of rainfall per year, and Sutter residents enjoy an average of 260 sunny days per year. The hottest month in Sutter is July, with an average high temperature of 95 degrees.
